A mailman died Saturday after he was shot multiple times while on his mail route, the Shreveport Police Department confirmed.

The identity of the victim has not been released as of 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

The man was walking in the 1100 block of Dudley Drive, near Beckham Drive, when the shooting occurred outside of town homes located in that area around 11:20 a.m., police said.

“We do believe that he was actively serving as a mailman during the time he was shot,” Det. Angie Willhite told The Times.

The victim was shot multiple times in the upper body and was taken to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, but later died.

Police said they believe two suspects are involved in the shooting, but names of the suspects have not been released. The suspects are not in custody.

A United States Postal Service investigator has become involved in the case, police said.

At around 1 p.m.  on Saturday, approximately 19 units were on scene, per Caddo911.

This report will be updated as information becomes available.
