Purge of public sector mandarins expected

A major purge of the public service is expected with up to five departmental secretaries to be moved on.

Canberra is rife with speculation that those to be moved on include Health Department Secretary Glenys Beauchamp, who was only appointed in September 2017.

Also tipped to go are Renée Leon from the Department of Human Services, who was also appointed in September 2017, and Agriculture Department Secretary Daryl Quinlivan.

It is heavily rumoured he will be replaced by veteran public servant Andrew Metcalfe who was removed as the head of the Immigration Department by Scott Morrison after Tony Abbott won the 2013 election.

More to come.
